Siliguri

Siliguri may called the Gateway of Eastern India as it is the main transit point for going to Darjeeling hill region, Sikkim, Bhutan, Eastern Nepal and Assam. It is the biggest town in North Bengal and is a fast developing one.

The surrounding areas of the city are beautiful. The Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary is 18 kms from the city (Permits are required). The Coronation Bridge (Sevoke Bridge) is an important bridge of the north east. There are a number of good hotels in the city.

PLACES TO VISIT IN SILIGURI:

MIRIK
Mirik (elevation 1,767 m) is another tiny hill resort easily accessible from Siliguri, Kurseong or Darjeeling. The center-piece of the town is the Sumendu Lake where boating under the serene gaze of Khangchendzonga makes for a most relaxing pastime. Rameetay Dara and Deosi Dara are two elevated points near the lake from where the view is terrific. Apple orchards and tea gardens are other attractions.

KALIJHORA
28 kms away from Siliguri on National Highway-31A is offering you with all its natural spectacular provisions to arrange picnic by the side of river Teesta. naturebeyond is building a eco-tourism resort at Kalijhora on the banks of River Tista. The project is undertaken with the direct involvement of local people, NESPON an environmental NGO and Govt agencies. Kalijhora is a splendid picnic spot by the side of spectacular River Teesta (27 km away from Siliguri). Close by are Peshok, famous for the confluence of Teesta and Rangeet; Mongpu reminiscent of association of the place with Rabindranath Tagore; and Latpanchor is emerging as an excellent tourist destination.
